Phuket or Penang...Malaysia or Thialand??
 

I will be travelling with my husband to Singapore in October. We would like to spend 4-5 days at a "resort" after his business trip. Any information about islands off Malaysia would be appreciated. Or would travelling to Phuket be a better idea?? Thanks!!

I have been to both Phuket and Penang. If you are looking for good beaches then you should definitely choose Phuket. Here you can visit Ko Phi Phi which are like islands in paradise and the spectacular Phang Nga Bay. Penang is more a city than an island resort though its a good place to experience Asia. <BR> <BR>There are many islands off the East Coast of Malaysia. I have been to Tioman 3 times and found that it has become overdeveloped. Sibu Island is nearest to Singapore but there is absolutely nothing to do here except to laze by the beach. Pulau Redang and Pulau Perhentian are reputedly very nice but it takes about 10-12 hours to reach them since there is no direct flight. An island worth considering is the Pangkor Laut on the West Coast of Malaysia. The Emerald Bay on the island is reputed to be the most beautiful in the world. There is only one resort on this island and it has some villas on stilts over the water. The perfect place for unwinding. <BR>

We were in Langkawi this year - the Datai is a stunning hotel in a rain forest with a superb beach. It is remote - best for chilling. We thoroughly recommend it. <BR> <BR>In 95 we were in Thailand at Hua Hin; the people were very friendly. <BR> <BR>

Forgot to mention that if either of you like golf; there is a superb curse at the Datai; hazard on the fairways - Monitor Lizards !

Greeting, DONNA. I truly agree with VERONA abt the PANGKOR LAUT RESORT. I was there in 1989 for 3 weeks & I went back with my Singaporean husband [ by the way, I was born & bred in Ipoh - 1.5 hours from Pangkor ] recently. being a beach lover, he insisted that we return to the island next year. if you need more infor, do email to me.
