Perth in a day
can anyone suggest the best way to see as much of Perth as we can in just one whole day? We enjoy beautiful neighbourhoods, galleries, markets and parks. |
I haven't been to Perth in years, so I'm far from an expert, but as no one has answered your question, I'll attempt an answer.
One whole day, meaning waking up in Perth and sleeping there? Will you have a car? What time of year? I'd suggest Kings Park and Botanic Garden in the morning, then Art Gallery of Western Australia (if you're going in summer, this might be a nice break from the heat of the day). There's a nice restaurant, Fraser's, in Kings Park. Perth has beautiful beaches. You didn't mention beaches, but I'd head over to Cottesloe Beach. But since you didn't mention beaches, maybe you'd want to take a Swan River cruise instead. Cottesloe Beach might be a great spot for viewing the sunset. I've stayed at both Cottesloe and Scarborough, but preferred Cottesloe. At night, I'd go to Fremantle for dinner. A tour that takes in some of the above attractions might be a good option. |
Thanks for your excellent suggestions Diamantina. We only have one whole day and no car. Our hotel is near Kings Park so that does sound good for the morning. My husband rings bells so we may go to the tower and then on to the gallery. I hope that is doable. Where would be good to find places to eat? |
Kings Park in the morning sounds perfect. I checked Google and it looks like you can get from Kings Park to the Bell Tower by bus or on foot in about a half hour.. Then it looks like it would only be a 15 minute walk from the Bell Tower to the Art Gallery of Western Australia. Your plan sounds doable.
I always enjoyed the Italian restaurants in Fremantle, but this wouldn't be practical for you. I've also eaten at a couple of good Indian restaurants in Perth, but, even I could remember their names, they probably wouldn't be around anymore. Before my recent trip to Sydney, I read recommendations in Gourmet Traveler, Time Out, the Good Food Guide, Urban List and then checked reviews on Trip Advisor. Oddly enough, my husband and I almost vacationed in Perth in August, but went to Queensland instead. But Broome (actually a little north of it) was our first choice, with a few days in Perth at the end. The flying times were just too long and the weather wouldn't have been ideal for Perth. |
