Are credit cards accepted for payment of Explorer buses, harbour tours, special attraction passes?

How walkable is Sydney? Is it basically flat, or hilly like San Francisco?

How do you get to Milson point, and how far is it from the Rocks area?

Don't know about Explorer buses, but fine for harbour tours, and I think would be ok for the attraction passes, perhaps not for individual entries at point-of-sale.

Sydney's flat in the CBD, some undulating bits but not in the "hilly" category.

Milsons Point is directly across the harbour from the Rocks. You can either take a ferry or the train from Wynyard. Possibly a bus also, probably goes to North Sydney and it's a 5 minute walk (down hill) from there.

Isn't it funny how perceptions differ (smile). I'd have said, yes, inner Sydney is hilly!! After all the harbour is a flooded valley, and though it may be flat round Circular Quay (OP that's the city ferry terminus) and immediate surrounds, it's uphill from there in all landward directions.

But with some exceptions that you may not need to navigate, it's not steep-hilly just a bit up and down. It's a very walkable city centre.

Apart from the ferry, the nicest way to get from the Rocks to Milsons Point is to head UP to the Upper Rocks area, find the steps that lead to the Harbour Bridge and walk across it. Interesting Museum in the SE pylon to check out on the way. And a cool place for breakfast the other side.

I was trying to get a sense of Sydney as compared to San Francisco.

We love to walk to get a better sense of a city. According to my map of Sydney, it seems like some of the neighborhoods, like Paddington, are not too far from the Rocks area, maybe two miles, or so. Maybe, walk one way, bus or taxi the other way.

It's certainly doable to walk to Paddington; but I'm not sure it would be the most enjoyable walk. The best bet if you want to walk to Paddo is go along Oxford street which has lots of shops, but not a lot to see. IMO the shopping area around Queen Street Woollahra is more interesting.

I would take a bus (380) from the city, get off at Paddington and then wander the backstreets on the North Side - there are lots of beautifully restored terraces. I would then head over to Queen Street. You could walk from there down Ocean Street to Edgecliff and take the train back to the city, or do the reverse and take the bus to Bondi Beach and do the cliff walk to Bronte. Stop at Caffe Salina for a coffee or bite to eat.
