Passport
Have heard conflicting information on entry to Cook Islands. What is the passport requirement. Does the passport have to be valid for at least six months after departure from the Cooks or have to be valid for period that you are actually in the Cooks?

I have a feeling that different requirements may apply to passport holders from different countries. What is your country of origin?

My US passport was due to expire in February and my OZ/Cook/Tahiti trip was scheduled for Aug/Sept before that date. I renewed my passport, because I had read somewhere that it must be valid for 6 months after your scheduled departure. I would not take my chances on this, if some places have different requirements. I think most places have the 6-month requirement nowadays. But Alan's point is well taken. If you are from OZ or NZ the requirements might not be the same (esp NZ ?). Just my opinion.

Who ever started the six months thing on some web site somewhere is incorrect. Cooks has no visa requirements for tourism purposes up to 31 days, with a plane ticket out and passport valid until time you leave. Immigration usually just asks when your flight out is, and where you are staying to make sure you have arrangements made. Business trips are different.

Country of origin is USA. I saw this 6-month passport requirement mentioned on the website for the Muri Beachcomber.

I didn't dream up the six month rule. I read it somewhere, on an official kind of site, about 6 weeks before I was departing for OZ and got busy and renewed my passport. My trip was not business. It was pleasure. It is very possible that Cook Islands doesn't have the same ruling. When you are traveling such great distances, and at quite an expense, why take chances?
