OCEAN ROAD DILEMNA

IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE TO ELIMINATE ONE OF THESE TOURS IN ORDER TO SEE GREAT OCEAN ROAD IN A DAY-- WHICH ONE WOULD IT BE?

PHILLIPS ISLAND/FAIRY PENGUIN

DAY TOUR OF CANBERRA

I AM STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO WORK THIS INTO MY PRE-PLANNED ESCORTED TOUR.

Hi looking at all your posts you have a large problem.
Day tour of Canberra ! Is this to be done on route to Sydney !
If it is not it is one hell of a day out from Melbourne. 656 klms. one way....1312 klms return trip that is 13 odd hours non stop travelling before you look around !
Phillip Island is 1 1/2. hours out of Melbourne but the penguins only come in right at dusk so you will be driving back to Melbourne in the dark.

GOR really needs a couple of days.
It is quite slow driving in some parts. However you may take a flight down over the Twelve Aposiles & enjoy all the great sights I cant remember who does these flights though !

The last one would be my choice when you have such a limited time frame...Good luck

We did the GOR in one day as far as to the Twelve Apostles. Left MEL 8am and were at the Twelve Apostles by 12:30 with a few pit stops along the way and to pick up food for picnic. Spent a good 2-hrs in and around the area, then drove back (on inland road) to MEL, arriving in time for 6pm dinner.

It can be done, but watch for speed cameras (we did get by mail, a camera ticket at our home in the States).

I'd pass on the Fairy Penguins which is a late afternoon trip, returning to MEL by 11pm, latest. And you can pass on Camberra unless these is where you drive thru on way to/fr SYD.

Canberra loses. Hands down!

I would probably skip canberra. Haven't heard much good about it (but now I'll probably get flamed for saying it).. When we were out at the twelve Apostles a number of people came in by helicopter and had a really great time there. If you have a short time - I think I'd try to pick up the helicopter tour - we had only one day and drove out and back and truly it's a LOT of driving!! We loved seeing all we saw, the road is very, very windy.
Most important - enjoy your visit to OZ!!

Give Canberra a miss and DEFINATELY do the helicopter. You can get one east of Port Campbell for around $80 per person. Well worth every cent and gives you a far better perspective than just the road drive which is spectacular in itself.

Skip Canberra. Don't miss the lovely fairy penguins on Phillips Island.
