NZ Travel Mid March to beginning of April 10
 

I just have a couple of questions/
1. Do any of you know of any camp grounds on Waiheke Island? We have to attend a wedding at the Mudbrick Winery on March 31st and will need to spend at least 2 nights there and since we already have a very modest campervan booked I would like to camp rather then rent a room.
2. Any particular campground that stood out to you on your trip? We are hoping to see some of the south and north Island in about 18 days.
3. Do you know where main agricultural belt would be if such a thing exists in NZ? We are potato and Tulip farmers and enjoying seeing that in other countries as well.

When I think agriculture, I think Invercargill (SI), although I believe that area is primarily sheep, cattle and dairy. You'll find sheep, cattle, and dairy just about everywhere though....deer farms are common too. There are also several salmon farms on the SI.

You'll find hops, mandarins, apples, and cherries growing in abundance around Nelson and Motueka. There are strawberry farms too - some near Upper Moutere, which is between Nelson and Motueka.

Cromwell (SI) is a big fruit growing region (the sign with the huge fruits outside town is a big giveway).

We ran across some interesting farms one year near Karamea - I think they were growing tomatillos, but I'm not sure.

You'll find vineyards everywhere...Blenheim, Nelson area, Motueka, Cromwell, Queenstown, Wanaka....and that's just the South Island.

And don't forget the lavender farms.

You don't have to go far in NZ to find something growing.

As Mel says, Petrella, you will find plenty of agricultural and horticultural variety right throughout NZ.

And you don't need to go far out of the main centres to find it.

In addition to the commercial campsites (eg Top 10) I would look at the DOC (Department of Conservation) camsite listings. Some of them are accessible to campervans.

There is no shortage of horticulture in NZ, quite a bit near Auckland eg in the Waikato region and also toward the Bay of Islands around Kerikeri.
