Hi Bel,

This is where we stayed in FJ - it's not luxurious but it had a kitchen area and was very quiet and central. https://www.alpineglaciermotel.com

And this is where we stayed in Wanaka: CriffelPeak View - Stylish accommodation in Wanaka, NZCriffelPeak View | Stylish accommodation in Wanaka, NZ It's set a short walk away from the centre of town and again is very quiet. We liked the communal breakfasts, the afternoon tea, the friendliness of the hosts, and their willingness to help their guests in any way they could. Also we were lucky enough to be offered the house at the top the garden rather than a room in the main house; I'm sure the rooms were fine but we enjoyed the extra space and the use of the washing machine and drier.

At Aoraki Court Motel in Aoraki Mt. Cook, rooms 21-26 have unobstructed views, i suggest you request one of these rooms.
We've stayed there three times, last time being put in Room 6. The mountain view in this room was minimal. Mostly our view was of other accommodation and, as it was an "accessible" room (which we did not request or need), the water ran all over the bathroom when we showered. We learned how to deal with this after the first time, but that first time necessitated sopping up puddles.
Also. on the way to Aoraki Mt. Cook, you'll pass a couple of salmon farms/outlets, don't be tempted to buy raw salmon to cook at Aoraki Court Motel, as they have a rule about not cooking smelly foods, like fish or curry. As we'd stayed there before we were aware of this rule, so brought venison medallions to cook for dinner. You can also dine out, of course.
