North Cairns beaches, which hotel?

We will be in the Cairns area for 4 nights in mid May. We are thinking of the Coral Sands in Trinity beach but just don't know the area. Any suggestions on where to stay would be helpful.

Thanks

Jeff, I don't know a lot about North Cairns, we always stay at Port Douglas when we head north. This is the place we stay at http://www.great-barrier-reef.com/marinaterraces/ because it is within walking distance to the beach, town centre, marina and the managers have always been very helpful with the more indivudual tours to take.
Peg.

Jeff,
Have not stayed at Trinity Beach myself but it's a beach suburb just north of Cairns. Don't think there would be much in the way of shops/restaurants. Cairns is the biggest town in the region (with mudflats, no beach), followed by Port Douglas, Palm Cove is quite small and then the suburbs like Trinity Beach are smaller again. It depends on what you want to do, laze around the resort or if you want to do reef trips, these seem to leave from Cairns and PD, you could check if they do pick ups at the beach areas north of Cairns, if not you would have to travel back to Cairns for any day trips. There is a local bus service on this route. Hope this is of some help to you.
Kay

I just got back from Port Douglas and Palm cove and I can recommend two places. In Palm Cove, which is about 20 minutes north of the Cairns airport, we stayed at the Sebel Reef House. It was very nice and the staff was wonderful. They can book your tours right from the hotel and arrange transportation for you. Our room had an ocean view, a large verandah and mini kitchen. The american dollar is so strong against the aussie dollar that everything seems half price. Our room at the Sebel was about $120 USD per night. In Port Douglas, which is about an hour north of Cairns, we stayed at the Raddison treetops. It was a good value for the money (about $110 USD) and a nice location. The grounds are lovely and the tour desk was very helpful in booking our reef excursion and our rainforest excursion. Port Douglas is a better location than Cairns if you plan to go to the great barrier reef and the rainforest. Its a small town with one main street and lots of nice restaurants and shops. There are local buses that make the rounds from the major hotels to Macrossan street (the main drag) so getting arround is pretty easy.
hope this helps.

North of Cairns at Trinity Beach is a wonderful bed and breakfast right on the beach in very private accomodations www.absolutebeach.com.au For two, the price is around $70 American and you get a wonderful breakfast. The website will be helpful. The owners are wonderful, and Frommers rates it a 5 star as does AAA. It can't be beat for the price. Also, there is Thala Lodge which has lovely views, but much more expensive. Good Luck! If you stay there tell them that Shelley Capretto sent you.
