Ningaloo Reef, Margaret River & Great Ocean Road in November
Planning on visiting Ningaloo reef in early November - where to stay? Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef is on the beach? Good, bad or ugly? What activities besides snorkeling? Is three nights and two full days enough? Can't stay much longer or go any other time. From there to Margaret River area for five nights. Then on to Great Ocean Road for three nights. Comments? Suggestions? Thanks!

Are you flying or driving within Western Australia?

As Mel implies driving from Ningaloo to Margaret River is a long long single days effort if achievable at that and a long long way even to drive in two days so I'll assume you're flying in and back from Perth.
On that basis, five days down south [and you may even feel inclined to duck around the SW corner to Esperance and back to Perth inland] before flying to Adelaide for a three day trip around the GOR all sounds good, probably a half day out of Adelaide through the Gorge road, up to Birdswood National Motor Museum, the Barossa Valley and an overnight at Hahndorf or Murray Bridge is manageable. The days will be long with daylight saving so you could also push on a bit if you wanted to KingstonSE or Robe and you'll find traffic along the Princess Highway very light. |
We are flying to Ningaloo and back from Perth. Then driving to MR. Fying to Adelaide and driving GOR. What kind of accommodation would we find in Robe? Thanks

Forgot---Where would a good base be in MR area?
|
For Margaret River region you've got Margaret River itself, plenty of accommodation variety - http://www.margaretriver.com/accom_result.asp will show more than I can speak on.
And then to north a half hour there's Busselton and Dunsborough and to south also about half an hour, Augusta, and similar accommodation options throughout the region. Robe is a relatively small town but a few motels, holiday cottages, B&Bs and holiday park cabins. |
Endless options for lodging in the MR region. We've stayed very near MR in the past, but quite enjoyed our stay near Yallingup last time - stayed at a nice cottage on a vineyard -
www.windance.com.au/ Along the GOR, we really enjoyed our stay at Apollo Colonial Cottages, located in Marengo, just two km from Apollo Bay. www.colonialcottages.com.au/ Sorry, can't help with Ningaloo, haven't been up that way yet, but hope to visit this year. |
