Night temps./dress Sydney & Melbourne
Hi again - One more question for you...I hope. :) I keep checking the temps. for all our stops in NZ & Oz. Those nightime temps. are real low! ( It says low 50 for Sydney and low 40 for Melbourne. ) I was thinking "Spring clothing" such as light cotton outfits to walk around during the evening. Now I think I'll be freezing! This one suitcase for 3 1/2 weeks is killing me!!! I know temps. vary each week, but should I skip the light spring stuff and pack some sweaters? We love to walk around day and evening. Also, I am assuming its fine to walk around both cities in the evening. Correct??? Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Re walking around at night - like most big cities there are areas better to avoid after dark. Check with your hotel for any no-go zones.
You don't say when you are visiting. Summer evenings in Australia can be quite warm. At the moment Sydney and Brisbane are having unusually hot weather for the time of the year, but Melbourne is cold, cold, cold. Bring clothes you can layer.

Sandy,
in Melbourne, the area along the Yarra River between Crown Casino and Southbank is great for walking, people-watching and eating. Loads of restaurants and on a warm evening it's wall to wall people. Watch for the gas flames that shoot skyward on the hour at the casino (in the evening). Unless you're coming Jan/Feb you'll need something warm like a jacket, fleece or cardigan for evening.
Kay

Hi Marg & Kay - I'm leaving next Saturday 11/2 but will be in NZ for a week before we head to Oz. We'll be in Sydney 11/12 - 11/15 and Melourne 11/21 - 11/24. Can't wait.

Sandy
If you're coming downunder, you'll have to put those dates in Australian:

Leave home 2/11
Sydney 12/11-15/11
Melbourne 21/11 - 24/11

Have fun in OZ!
|
Oops! Thanks Margo. One week to go and we're there.
|
50 is nice sweater weather. Sydney is very safe, and you will have a great time.
|
Sandy, the temps you've checked may be celcius, and in that case, considerably warmer than you're expecting. Just something to look into...
|
50 C would be 120 F.......I don't think so.

Hi Sandy,
My husband, son and myself just returned from Australia. From what people are telling you it is chilly in Melbourne. We packed alot of shorts and didn't used alot of them.
Pack a sweater you really like and use that as you tour the area.
The weather was colder than I thought it would be so be prepared. Have a great time.

Sandy the weather in Melbourne is all over the place. Today it is 20. yesturday 28. tomorrow 18.
You will need a sweater.

A good motto when packing... put out everything you intend to take & then put 1/2. back into the wardrobe ! I find I never use everything I take.

New Zealand is always colder. You will need a good jacket if you are heading to the glazier.
Have a great time.
