Newtown in Sydney?
|
Hi there,
If you do mean Newtown, Sydney, and you do mean cheap, then there's the Billabong Gardens. Backpacker place. Haven't been there since 1998. Did have a great vibe and is just off the main street (King Street). They have a website now.' http://www.billabonggardens.com.au/ Cheers. |
Yes-sorry sydney. Looks like an interesting area and will prob go Billabong but wonder if anything reasonable but not too backpacker for oldies.
|
Sunrise Lodge is another relatively cheap place in Newtown. I've only seen it from the outside but the internet pics look OK. I'm not sure of the age group, but perhaps you could email them and ask.

Must it be Newtown?
Would a pub be OK? |
We stayed at Ardmore House in Newtown last year, voted Sydney's top B&B on TripAdvisor
http://www.ardmorehouse.com.au/ We really enjoyed our stay, and found Newtown to be a funky, laid-back and fascinating area. And for contrast, Sydney's oldest cemetary is there, too. And one of Newtown's most popular restaurants - Oscillating Wildly - has rave reviews. Need to book one month in advance - we're off to sample the cuisine in late May. Jackie |

Still wondering, and sort of curious, why Newtown? If what you want is to stay somewhere that is "not the centre" there are other options.
And what, in order to offer more suggestions, is your defintion of budget? |
I think Newtown is a great "Outside the Square" choice. Excellent transportation - 15 min from city by bus (10 by train). Some interesting food and non touristy. Funky shops and people are always on the go.
Go for it. I haven't stayed at the Sunrise but it looks smart and clean from the outside and the location is good. |
