Newcastle NSW
Hi All,
Just wanted to find out what you people think of newcastle ? I am currently living in Canada. And originally I wanted to go to Sydney but my company can't find me work there. So its either newcastle or wollongong. Just wanted your thoughts on Newcastle and what you think of it in terms of the beaches, bars, nightclubs, gyms etc. I am 25 year old guy so do you think this would be a good place for a young guy like myself?? Thanks in advance. Qjamil |
Can't speak to the young guy part (I'm a middle-aged woman(: ) But the beaches in Newcastle are beautiful, including surf beaches. There was a lot of building going on there (we visited a month ago) so there seems to be a lot of growth. Sorry I can't help you as to whether it is vibrant for a young guy.
It's only 1 1/2 hours from Sydney, as well. |
There is a large University in Newcastle which would ensure that it would be a good place for you to try.

thank you for your responses. I was browsing some sites and just searched up for clubs, bars, restaurants and it seems like there are good places to visit.
Thanks |
I live near Newcastle, and agree with Toucan about the beautiful beaches here. There has always been a strong live music culture here for young people, good gyms, don't know the nightclub scene (too old and not interested), very friendly people and a great life-style. On the negative side,in the inner city, there have been some problems with drunken youths roaming around and vandalising late at night when the pubs shut - they are trying to alleviate this problem.
But on the whole, if you have a job to come to, I think you will love it . We are only an hour's drive from the Hunter Valley vineyards, or to the snowgums of the Barrington Mountains, and a couple of hours by train to Sydney. |
My sister lives in Newcastle and I believe it is really starting to move in the social scene. There are always lots of concerts/music etc which are usually cheaper than Sydney and a lot easier to get to. There are lots of good restaurants and quite a lot of art type cultural things happening also. The beaches are also great.
Sorry it is late here in Australia and that sounded like a 15 year old talking. You should enjoy Newcastle and as pointed out it is only 2 hours from Sydney, easy train journey if you don't want to drive. |
