New Zealand South Island???
Hi All
Six days in New Zealand is my second stop on my RTW trip starting in late Feb. From reading various posts on New Zealand, and other places, it seems to me I should fly to Auckland, maybe overnight there, and then fly on to Queenstown. There hopefully to rent a car and spend the next 4 or 5 days exploring the scenery and especially the wine country. Then flying back to Auckland and on to Fiji. I would rent a car and hopefully stay in the smaller towns all over the wine country area. Can I please have your thoughts and experiences in doing something similar to this? Thanks again. Shrink PS: I know the time is very limited, but I have miles to go before I sleep........ |

With such limited time, I think flying to QT is a good idea, although personally, I wouldn't bother staying overnight in Auckland, I'd just keep going.
Wine areas in/around Queenstown include Cromwell, Alexandra, Bannockburn, Wanaka, the Gibbston Valley...lots to choose from. http://www.winesofnz.com/otago.aspx |
I agree not to overnight in Auckland with such a short time.
Towns where I've stayed closer to the wineries include Clyde and Cromwell. Arrowtown is another possibility. Depending on what else you're doing (scenery and other activities) I'd consider Queenstown, Wanaka or Te Anau. |
PS I meant to add that you could split your stay between the wine area towns and the bigger tourist towns.

Thanks guys - I really appreciate it. Looks like Auckland is out. I just thought I might have to stay there depending on when I get there. If possible I wont. Thanks again.
