New Zealand....peace of mind
I am doing my homework, but I just need someone to tell me that I did not miss a thing!! I have secured electronic Visas for our family for Australia, but am I right in thinking I need nothing as far as a Visa... as an American for our trip to New Zealand where we go first? It seems to say that, but someone please tell me I am reading correctly. It may sound silly, but I have a hard time believing that I won't get patted down, searched like crazy, shoes off, socks off, and whatever else they want off and away from me!!

NZ is much more laid back about security than Oz, but no Visa will stop them checking you out pretty thoroughly if you look in any way suspicious or if sniffer dogs take an interest. As the USA is our favourite destination I know EXACTLY what you mean about searches - just a fact of life and travel in this era, unfortunately.

They are more concerned with imported pests..as in agricultural, and will carefully inspect anything suspect. Leave the fruit and veg on the plane. If you're bringing hiking gear or boots clean it well and pack it on top of your luggage for inspection.

From the U.S. State Department website: "If you are a U.S. citizen, you are eligible for a visa waiver and do not need a visa for tourist stays of three months or less. Visit the Embassy of New Zealand for the most current visa information."
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_p...y_requirements I think you can breathe easy now. |
mlgb has a point; people can be asked to wash their boots under supervision if significant amounts of soil are on them.

A belated thanks for the help!!
