Happy Earth Day!

I've teamed up with our hotels editor (Erica_D) to take a closer look at green properties around the world and I'd be curious to hear about your eco-lodging experiences.

I've noted several eco-related posts regarding trips to New Zealand---do you have a favorite eco lodge there? Are there other areas in Australia & the Pacific that you think make great destinations for "green" vacations?

I realize travel budgets are tight and staying in green properties often means paying a premium. Has the economy made green travel less of a priority for you---or do you find that some lodges actually offer superior value to non-green options?

We have just returned from a world trip & stayed in a great place ion Tasmania called Mountain Wilderness Resort in Loongana NW of country

Patti4 - Thanks for sharing about Mountain Wilderness Resort. Was it the "green" aspect that attracted you to the property?

Yes it was the green aspect but also the isolation & the nature influence. It was so quiet & peaceful with few people but lots of birds & animals

apologies in that this will not be especially helpful for list-making, but new zealand has been eco-conscious in general for quite some time, making the green-ness of most properties, especially those near forests, the great walks locales, etc. implicit, rather than a reaction to the newe interest in such things.

low flow toilets, economized lighting systems and recycling are just the way people live in nz, and are far less likely to be trumpeted (although the tourism department would no doubt appreciate the hint these days).
