The stupidity of some people is truly breathtaking. That's one incredibly lucky tourist. Maybe the crocodile was a baby?

A couple of years ago, we watched in disbelief when a motorcyclist stopped at a ford in Kakadu and, despite the signs posted everywhere warning of the presence of crocs, he left his bike on the riverbank, waded across the ford to see how deep the water was (thigh-deep), waded back and then walked his bike across before continuing on his way. Three crossings on foot! No crocs appeared, but we, and the dozen or so others who were there at the time, were left shaking our heads at such stupidity. Maybe he thought that his leathers would protect him.

kiwi_rob, that bloke probably went close to being entered in the Darwin Awards (no pun intended).

And don't forget that while crocs can rely on activity patterns to take their prey they are also very swift and active opportunistic predators. You will not outrun a croc unless you have a significant head start. As for out-swimming one ...

OTOH ..... crocs have to eat. If they get the odd idiot who ignores all warnings and ventures into THEIR habitat, is that really such a bad thing? After all: (1)The croc gets a meal, and a change of diet (2) The human gene pool is enriched by the reduction of idiots who can be a nuisance to others and worse, breed more idiots.
