Name of a Greek restaurant in Melbourne?
I will be in Melbourne next week and a friend told me about a Greek restaurant which has photos of Maria Callas on the walls. My friend ate at this restaurant and liked it, does anyone know of it and the name please?

Maybe Jimmy's?

Thanks so much Susan, will check this out for sure.
Any ideas for my previous question about breakfast places in Melbourne if you are a local? |
I'm in Sydney, so not really a local. My favourite places in Melbourne for a continental breakfast are:
Pellegrini's Espresso Bar 66 Bourke St Melbourne Brunetti Carlton 194 - 204 Faraday Street Carlton |
Nearly any of the little places in Degraves Street near Flinders Street Station are great for breakfast. Just wander along and take your pick.

I also meant to add that if you happen to be over Fitzroy/Collingwood way doing the shops I am very fond of Proud Mary at 172 Oxford Street, Collingwood. This is a very substantial breakfast so should probably treat it more as a brunch.

There is a café magazine called Crema which just did their favourite 5 Melbourne cafés based on coffee, and Proud Mary was number one. Sorry I can't remember the rest, I just thought Proud Mary was a very distinctive name.

Thanks so much for your answers.

Hi Susan7, Jimmy's is no longer at 130 Lygon St, seems to have disappeared a long time ago. I did find a good little breakfast place, Pensione Cafe on Spencer St, good prices and nice breakfast.

I don't know the one you're looking for specifically, but in the CBD, the area around Lonsdale and Russell Streets is called the "Greek Precinct" and there are at least 6 Greek (and Greek-ish) restaurants clustered around that corner.
Tsindos, Baraki, Elements, Stalactites, Dion, Medallion. And another one a block over in Chinatown called Kri Kri that I think is still there. I do know it's not the Press Club on Flinders... doesn't match the description. |
