MYANMAR AND LAOS?HELP NEEDED...
 

any suggestions for places to stay in Rangoon,Mandalay,Bagan,Vientiane,Inle Lake....
any suggestions for ” must see places ” in the same areas.

in inle lake make efforts to find the "4 sisters"
they live in yangshwe on a wodden house above the
wwater . they rent some rooms but more important is that they give you a fantastic evening including
dinner,local songs and a pleasent atmosfare.
to find them , go to the water passege that connects yangshwe to inle lake . 4 years ago i found them there 300 meters towards the lake
and we had a great evening there .

If you budget can afford it the Strand in Rangoon (Yangon) is one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. (it has been totally renovated). We spent a couple of nights there last February.

Merhaba, <BR> <BR>Several years ago when i was in Rangoon the Strand was being renovated and I had to stay at a place called the "Best Hotel", at the time it was the best in the city but now the Strand is much, much better if you can afford it. If not there a lot of small hotels which are very nice but only have 8 to 15 rooms but are much cheeper. As for Laos I often stay at the Lao Plaza Hotel, but understand from friends that the Novel is also very nice. I would have to agree with another poster to go to the "Four Sisters" for dinner. They serve authentic Burmese food. You don't have a choice of menu only what is prepared for that night. They only ask for donations so you pay what you think its worth. When we were there last year they had also just opened a modest motel. <BR> Hire yourself a boat to take you to where ever the Market is that day. Get up very early and get there before the rest of the tourists show up. You will have to inquire as to where the real market is that day. It moves from day to day. Don't bother with the floating market unless that is where the real market is that day. <BR> You will have to pay a fee to go out on this lake. The money of course all goes to the government. There is no way around it. You may find a boat that will take you without permit but you will be putting the owner in peril should he get busted. <BR> In Rangoon you must see the Schweedagon.From Mandalay we flew into a little town called Bhamo and took the ferry back to Mandalay. If you want a look at a beautiful Burmese town that looks like Asia from thirty years ago this is a good trip. There is one modern motel in town. The first class aircon rooms on the ferry are a joke. <BR> <BR>Larry
