Moving to Perth - Need advice!
I've been accepted at Murdoch University and I am seriously considering accepting the offer. But that means living in Perth for two years and I have no info about the city. I'm no novice when it comes to living abroad though. Originally from Brazil, I've been living in the USA for almost three years now. Although moving again to a foreign country might have its similarities, I know that every place is a whole new and unique experience altogether. I would really appreciate if somebody could help me with your impressions on living in Perth, as well as how is Murdoch University regarded as an educational institution.
Thank you very much and regards,
Helma

Our son spent the Fall semester at Murdoch U. as a semester abroad program. Quite honestly, I cannot give you too much information as to the caliber of the university, I do remember him saying that, had he to do it again, he would have checked out the U. of Western Australia--which is also in the Perth area. At Murdoch he had a great experience living in the student village with kids from around the world. To be perfectly honest, he goes to a competitive school in America, and he was looking for other things than studying nonstop while in Australia.
He loved Perth, as did we when we visited. The area, the beaches, and the people were terrific. Frankly, I was afraid he would decide to settle there permanently. Don't know how helpful this is--but at least we have been there. Good luck!

Hi Helma!
I'm an Ozzie, and don't live in Perth, but know people who've been there. Perth is a great, fun place to be. The people are relaxed, free and easy. The climate is hot and dry. The beaches are wide, white and sandy. The ocean is deep blue. Perth is like a country apart from the rest of Oz because it is separated by a huge expanse of desert. But it is a very cosmopolitan place, nevertheless. I'm sure you'll love it there.

Hi Helma

We moved to Perth approx six years ago after spending three years in Queensland and before that South Australia. My biggest concern prior to moving here was the isolation, but you get used to that. You just have to accept that you need to get in a plane for three to five hours to get to another capital city!

I would have to say however that the lifestyle here is fanastic. The beaches are the best in the country, the city is clean and has the best transport system in Australia. People are very easy-going and we found it very easy to make friends.

I can not give you any personal advice about Murdoch other than I have heard good reports.

However if you are looking for a great lifestyle opportunity for two years then I can only recommend Perth as a great place to do it. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Regards, Rob
yeah i live in perth and go to uni

murdoch uni is a really nice uni, the good universities guide of australia ranks all unis in australia as well as in-depth info on all universities in austrailia. I think murdoch is a 3 or 4 star uni. Perth is a really nice and sunny city home to more than 1 million people and has a relaxed lifestyle with plenty of things to do!
