mosquitos in Cairns / Port Douglas area

Hi, I am going to Port Douglas / Cairns area in early October and am wondering if there is a mosquito problem in that area especially in the rain forests. if there is does anyone have any great products that they have used to stop them biting?
Thanks, Tamra.

Not many about right now as there's been barely any rain for months, but weather warming up so...... Also sandflies in some parts (tiny midges)more prevalent in late afternoons. Bushman, Rid, Aeroguard are good personal insect repellents and are widely available.

Mangroves can present a problem with sandflies and some mosquitos in the Melaleuca swamps. Most rainforests have very few mosquitos at any time of year and that is the dry season. There are mosquitos around all year but few at that time.

one word "RID"
I'm a local to cairns so know a fair bit about the place. I'm lucky and the mossies don't bother me too much but my wife is their favourite dish. We (and most other locals) use a product called RID, it comes in a pupple bottle and contains lots of DEET. Another useful one is "Bushmans".
The mossie situation isn't too bad yet, not until the rains start in Dec-Jan more info here http://www.visitcairns.com.au/generalinfo.htm
