More info on Tahiti / Renaissance?

I know that there was another post offering a cruise review of this area/ship, but I also know he lost his review in a virus. So, to start a new thread,

We're going on the R3 10-day to Tahiti in December 2001. Does anyone have any 'gotta-dos' or 'dont-bothers' for shore excursions? I've been on several cruises in the Caribbean, and I would feel comfortable there by not doing a shore excursion and taking off on my own. Is this a possibility for this cruise, or am I better off taking what the cruise ship offers for excursions?

Thanks in advance!!!

Melanie, My husband and I just got back from the R3-Tahiti cruise. On the don't miss list is the shark and ray feed ing @ Bora-Bora. It's great! Also, the 4X4 tour of Moorea is good. I would skip the 4X4 on Bora Bora. Not as exciting as Moorea. You should try to take shore excursions in all ports.. There really was not a whole lot of things to do without them. The people of FP were all so warm and welcoming. Please don't miss any chance to interact with them..You can feel comfortable about taking excursions on you own, here!
Have a great time!!!

Go to the Lagoonarium on Bora Bora. You get to swim with the sharks and rays. It was better than when you just watched them feed them from a distance.

I am also going on the R4 at the end of June for the 7 night cruise on Renaissance. However, my main concerns are the mosquitoes and "no see ums" I've heard about. Unfortunately, I am one of those people who are highly allergic to mosquito bites/ sand fleas, etc. and will itch for days and days.
I'm also the person that if there is 1 mosquito in the area, it'll bite me!
My legs were absolutely raw from sand flea bites in Antigua and yet my husband had nary a one. In other words, should I douse myself in bug spray everyday while I'm there? Will this be that big of a deal ? thanks.
