More bad news about Yellow Eyed Penguins
 
As I have posted before on this forum, the yellow eyed penguins, also known hoihos, and which many visitors look forward to seeing on their trips to coastal Otago and Southland, are on the brink of extinction on the mainland. This article states that Curio Bay now only has one last breeding pair, so it is alll the more important to not disturb or even come close to the YEPs/Hoihos if viewing them.

Earlier in the year, two hoiho were killed by dogs at another Catlins penguin nesting area:
