Miss Maud/ Perth

Anyone have any personal experience with Miss Maud's in Perth? We're looking for inexpensive accommodations for one night and considering Miss Maud's with its free smorgasbord breakfast. How's the location? We won't have a car but I hear public transit is good.

We went there for afternoon tea after hearing my grandmother rave over it (I should have known better!!). It was pretty ordinary, old-fashioned, couldn't really recommend it. We didn't see the rooms but it was reasonably central. There is a free bus in Perth and also one in Fremantle that does a circuit of the city and you can hop on and off. Also Perth is not that big a city, we found it quite walkable. Don't miss Freo, I fell in love with the place, much nicer than Perth. You can catch a train from Perth to Freo or catch a ferry down the Swan River, we did the ferry option one way with a wine tasting and caught the train back.

Thanks KayF! I think we'll go ahead with Miss Maud's since it's inexpensive and includes a big breakfast. Glad to hear that it's centrally located. We plan to go to Fremantle--would you happen to know how late the train runs back up to the city from Freo during the week?

Sorry I don't know much about the trains but someone else on this board may know. Or try a search on Google, that's sure to turn up the answer.

I already stayed there 4 times. The brekfast is about the best you get in WA. (Not that this would be very difficult to do) ;-)

They got 2 different types of rooms. All rooms are nice and clean, but those a little more expensive are worth the extra money!!! The location a perfect, everything within walking distance.

I also give a thumbs up on Miss Maud's good location and amazing breakfast (if it's the same one I had as a non-hotel guest). Their dinner buffet is huge as well. Food was well-prepared (with a lot of variety) and it is truly an all-you-can-eat affair both breakfast and dinner.

Thanks everyone for the thumbs up--it's so nice to be re-assured!

The hotel is located on the corner of Pier and Murray Streets and is very central - about 2 minutes walk from the Murray Street mall where you will find Myer and David Jones and all the other stores. There is a free bus service that goes around Perth called the CAT (Central Area Transit). I think there are three routes, you can hop on and off. The stops are clearly marked and have a voice sensor that tells you how long until the next bus. You are also 5 minutes from the City train and bus stations.

I can't comment on the rooms but Miss Maud makes wonderful pastries and cakes that are very popular.

Enjoy your stay in Perth.

Miss Maud's hotel is basic but clean and comfortable and is in a good location. Miss Mauds food is famous. The breakfast is very nice but not outstanding. The trains run regularly from Perth to Fremantle and return every day and the station is in walking distance from the hotel.

Enjoy your stay in our beautiful city!
