Melbourne hotel? nice plus value?

Am single woman needing a hotel for the night. Is there one that is in a safe neighborhood, possibly a boutique style, that is not very pricey.
Thanks
Dee Dee

Where abouts in Melbourne do you want to be? The CBD, a bit out or........? And a budget might help narrow the choices!

Mary, I'll arrive by train to Spencer Station, then catching flight to American next day. AUD $100 to 125 would be perfect. Thanks Dee Dee

Dee Dee, take a look at www.wotif.com.au and click on Melbourne CBD to get a range of hotels. This is a discount hotel site. You can book about a month in advance or less. I usually stay at Darling Towers on Collin Street right in the city centre. This is an apartment stay hotel. There are lots and lots of hotels listed on the website. Most of the hotels listed have a map to show you exactly where they are located. You will not have any problems staying in the CBD.
Hope you are not looking to go during the next 12 days as room prices are very high due to the Commonwealth Games.

Wotif is a good site for lodging, so I see. Any other ideas? I'll look up the Darling Towers, thanks.

Dee dee - just in case it would be of interest and if you don't want to spend a lot, but want somewhere clean and safe - have you considered a hostel?

The Melbourne Metro YHA is a great place. I was there just last week. It certainly isn't a "boutique" hotel, but it isn't a chain hotel either, and it has ensuite rooms. Most folk are budget travellers, but the ensuite rooms are tidy - and there's a handy cafe and a roof terrace with great views of the city.

You'd have to take a taxi from Spencer St Stn (now renamed Southern Cross Station) but you'd probably have to do that for any place you choose.

It's a couple of blocks from the Queen Victoria Market if you have some time to spend before catching your onward flight.
78/88 aud single/twin with ensuite. But they are popular. [email protected]

or check www.yha.org.au

Cheers.
