Melbourne Apartments Help Please
We arrived in Melbourne after emigrating from the UK just over two weeks ago and we had pre-booked our accommodation at the Clarion Suites in the city. These we found just about adequate inside, however the noise on the 7th floor overlooking the river was dreadful with it being at the junction of three busy main roads and about 100m from trains entering and leaving Flinders Stn on 3 tracks. After one night we therefore booked in the Quay West suites, which though much better, the cost of AUD$250 a night here is starting to cripple us.
Does anyone know of any nice serviced apartments in the suburbs which are quiet and which cost less than $200 a night.
Many thanks.

Neil, I can't give you any personal recommendations. As I live in Melbourne I have never had to enquire about them. If you do a search for serviced apartments Melbourne on the net dozens of places come up, many within your price range. If you want to check those and then ask quetions about how far out those suburbs are from the city, are they near public transport etc. we can then help you out. It is pointless to suggest suburbs unless we know what your needs are. Do you need to get into town each day, are you working in the eastern suburbs, do you need public transport etc? If you already have a general idea of what area of Melbourne you eventually want to settle in, choosing an apartment in the same general area is a good idea so you can check out longer term accommodation at the same time.

Try, they have a number of options for both inner and slightly further out suburbs. I can recommend the Williamstown North apts(not Williamstown - (which is more expensive), but you'll need a car. The Jolimont ones looked good too, and they'd be within walking distance of the cbd.

You could also try the Medina Apartments - they have 2 in Melbourne, one on Queen St and one on Flinders St opposite Birrarung Mar (Federation Sq area). The one on Flinders St is very nice, they have 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, fully self-contained but not sure of cost.
The further you go out of the city, generally the cheaper it will be, but if you have to travel into the city you will then incur transport costs. There are newish apartments in Ringwood (outer east), about 5 min walk from the train station, see They have a special on their website for stays of over a week - $138 per night for a one bedroom apartment. They are opposite Eastland, a big shopping centre with movie theatres, supermarkets etc. Train would take about 45 mins from the city though so lots of travel. If you ring Quest, Oakford and Medina you should be able to find something to suit. Good luck.

Hi Neil
Welcome to Melbourne. You should be able to find something to your liking through the above link.
Another option to the ones already given by other posters is the Metro Suites in Jolimont, just near the MCG.
I heard on the radio this morning that accommodation in Melbourne is very hard to come by this week with the school holidays, the football grand final and the Royal Show
