Melbourne Airport to Geelong
Recommendations for motels between Melbourne Airport and Geelong and things to do in Geelong. Information will be appreciated. Thanks
|
1* I assume you are driving a car picked up at Melbourne airport.
2* After you leave Melbourne airport, you are on a freeway heading into the city. There are no motels along that stretch that I have noticed. 3* Within 3k of leaving the airport, you will exit onto the Western Ring Road that runs around the outskirts of the western suburbs of Melbourne, direction Geelong. There are no motels along this road either. 4* The Ring Road joins the Princes Highway, and you go direction Geelong on a freeway. There are no motels along this freeway, but there will be some in Werribee, the exit to which is about halfway to Geelong. 5* Geelong is about 70k from Melbourne, and there are motels on the lefthand side of the road once you have entered the environs of Geelong. 6* Geelong has a wide array of activities for visitors, but advice would depend on your interests, which are not clear from your post. |
Thanks adeben,
Our flight arrives in Melbourne early evening, wedding in Geelong next day so thought we would drive a little way out of Melbourne before it gets dark. Interests in Geelong outer area are hiking, wine trails, nice scenery and cafes. Thanks again for previous info. |
Which airport are you landing at?
|
As it takes less than an hour to drive to Geelong from the airport, I suggest you simply find a hotel in Geelong which will suit you for your whole stay and as adeben has pointed out there is virtually nothing inbetween anyway. By the time you hit the few motels on the outskirts of Geelong it will only be another 10 minutes to drive into central Geelong.
There is the upmarket Werribee Mansion Hotel half way there but it sounds like you after something fairly basic, rather than expensive. |
Barbara. We are flying into Tullamarine
and it looks like we will be driving through to Geelong. Thanks Sandy |
Hi PJ
There is a fairly frequent airport transfer service from Tullamarine to central Geelong. The journey takes 1 hour 10 minutes and buses leave approximately every hour. If you are arriving after a international flight, with lack of sleep and jet lag it may well be a better and safer option than car hire and driving. Hi again PJ
Regarding your accommodation, activities query, check out tthis website http://www.geelongaustralia.com.au/Visiting_Geelong/ What time are you visiting? |
Sorry, just noticed that you are interested in hiking and nice scenery. Can I highly recommend the Great Ocean Walk, it is just spectacular. You can do the whole walk(7 or 8 days)or just short three/four hour segments.
You are walking through National Park in pristine conditions, walking along sheer cliff tops with dramatic ocean vistas. Stroll along the clean, white, sandy beaches of the Southern Ocean. Head inland through majestic forests, past cascading waterfalls, fern gullies and the brilliant wildflower displays of winter and springtime. In stormy weather, experience the exhilaration of the wind in your hair as the huge rollers relentlessly pound the coast. On hot, summery days, enjoy a refreshing dip along the way. There are plenty of native animals to see including kangaroos, koalas, colourful birds and many nocturnal animals. You can camp in designated areas or stay in B&Bs close to the track.
