So, has anyone been to Matamanoa?

Mary Sep 7th, 2001 04:06 PM

Yes, I've been to Matamanoa & loved it. Small & personal resort. I haven't been to Malolo - But looking at where it is I'd still be going to Matamanoa for preference.

We stayed at Matamanoa a couple years ago and had a great time. We made visits to several of the neighboring islands to visit the Fijian villages. The snorkeling was not as good as we would have liked. There are quite a few bures in a very small area and some are very close to the bar and restaurant area which made them quite noisy to be in. We stayed in a bure and also a garden unit. The garden units are like a motel row and the walls are like paper so you can hear "everything" going on next door. While we were there a cyclone was approaching and they were busy boarding up all the windows. We had to be helicoptered off the island as all boat transportation stopped and we had to catch our plane home that evening. I must say we were very well taken care of and the staff was excellent. The only thing we didn't like was so many people in such a small area.

Just returned from two weeks in Fiji that included three nights at Matamanoa. We wished we would've spent more of our vacation there. Of the four resorts we visited (Fijian, Wananavu, Otto & Fanny's, Matamano), Matamanoa was the easy favorite. I thought it one of the best resorts I've ever visited (topped only by the very different Les Crayeres) because of the spectacular staff and the atmosphere they helped create.

We weren't scheduled to visit Matamanoa and ended up there in a hotel room as a result of a change of plans. We never heard our neighbors on either side, but perhaps we're heavy sleepers.

The resort was 100% occupied, as I understand it typically is, but I didn't feel that it was overly crowded though one morning we did have some difficulty finding two beach chairs together.

During our visit there were several couples that we met that were repeat visitors, including one that was on their 14th visit.

I know nothing of Malolo, so I can't compare, but feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Kevin
