Mail Boat/Run Near Sydney
Hi, We have been on mail runs outside of Coober Pedy,Australia and another one in New Zealand. They are fantastic ways to see the more remote areas of a country. I read about a mail run near Sydney-months ago. We are now in Sydney and can't remember where we read about it. Can anyone help? Thanks so much.

The Hawkesbury mate - http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2006/...871546416.html and there or on http://www.hawkesburyriver.com/details.php?id=31 you should find booking details.
You'll need to get a Central Coast train, hopping off at Brooklyn. |
No web site it may seem, but
"* The riverboat postman leaves Brooklyn at 9.30am, Monday to Friday. Adults fares are $45, concessions $38, children (5-15) $25. Fish and chips lunch in Brooklyn, $10 extra. Phone (02) 9985 7566." Fish and Chips supposed to be good value too! We expect a report on all your mail runs btw. |
Many thanks to you, Bushranger. I am sure you have provided the information we were looking for. We are going to take the riverboat postman excursion as soon as possible.

A couple of tips for your Hawkesbury run. We did this on our 2006 trip and would recommend it as a lovely relaxing day in the midst of your vacation. We took the train out to Brooklyn, adding a bit to our green CityRail TravelPass, which ended at Epping.
We did not buy the lunch on board and were glad to have skipped it because it was ordinary lunchmeat sandwiches and chips. Instead, we lunched after we returned at a little walk-up stand just across from the train station. I had the best oysters of my life there and heartily recommend that you have lunch there too. Be sure to take some insect repellant along. The flies were very thick the day we went. Just as we were settling in for the "voyage" a tour bus pulled up and deposited a bus load of passengers who joined us on the boat. |
