luggage transfer between 2 seperately booked flights
We are looking into flying from London Heathrow to Sydney Airport on Southern China Airways and then catching a seperatly booked flight from Sydney Airport to Auckland International. Not sure what airline yet to Auckland as still looking for flights but does anyone know if our bags can be transfered from 1 flight to the other or how we go about?
Thanks |
Generally not if it's not booked on the same ticket. Allow at least 3 hrs to collect bags and checkin for next flight

I think if you book your second flight with the same airline, or one of their partners, then there is a chance of linking the bookings ( with a phone call to their flight help desk).
If this is important for you, best to check the process through with China Air before you go ahead with the second booking. Di |
If the two airlines have an interline agreement, then most likely they will check your bags through. They won't necessarily have to be on the same booking.
But if there is no interline agreement or partnership . . . won't happen. |
Heathrow to Sydney is a really exhausting flight (over 20 hours), it might be worth paying extra to book with an airline that is either in One World or Star Alliance to enable your luggage to be checked all the way through to Auckland.
Qantas and LAN (One World) and Air New Zealand (Star Alliance) have flights from Sydney to Auckland. |
