long distance calling from australia
I'm in australia and am looking for cheaper ways to call the states--any ideas? thanks...

Go into a Newsagent and purchase a "phone Away" card. There are several different ones and you can use those at a very lower rate to phone the USA.
I have one with me at all times and it can be used on any phone anywhere as you phone a central number first. |
Do not use the Telstra Phoneaway card. It charges normal Telstra rates of about 22 cents a minute.
There's a huge range of cards at the Newsagent that charge 3.9 cents a minute. Some are the Apple Card, Say G'day Card, etc. Just make sure there's a local number on the card to access the system and you're set! |
I purchased a phone card from Thomas Cook for $5. Called the US three times and still had time left over! It was very economical.

We used the "Hello" card for 5 cents (Australian) per minute to the US! No additional charges. Cheaper than calls in the US. Whichever card you purchase, be sure you read the fine print. Don't pay extra for access numbers, etc.

We were at the Sydney airport and went to a news agent/ gift shop, where they had the GO phone cards for sale. We bought a $20 card and it was 3.9 cents to the US. Very cheap. Didn't use it all in the 3 weeks we were there> Highly recommend it. ! ! !
