Lodging in Lakes Entrance

As noted previously, my wife and I plan to spend one night in the Lakes Entrance area en route by car from Sydney to Melbourne. We are looking for lodging for that one night and I've gone to tripadvisor.com to look at our hotel options. They are, in a word, disappointing.

We would appreciate suggestions as to where to stay in this area. Ideal would be something with a water view and a restaurant either at the property or within close walking distance as The Mister does enjoy his wine with dinner.

This would be our second night of two en route.

Thanks,
BigBlue

Personally I think Metung is a better place to stay. It is only a few kms. from Lakes Entrance, is right on the water and off the main highway. There are several accomodation options so try Googling Metung accommodation. I can recommend McMillans of Metung but they might have a two night minimum. There are other places worth considering.

Hi BigBlue,
From "Beautiful B & Bs and Small Hotels", a few to consider (I've not stayed at any of them so can't recommend.)

Near Lakes Entrance: Goldsmith's in the Forest www.goldsmithsintheforest.com.au

Metung: The Anchorage www.anchoragebedandbreakfast.com.au
Clovelly House www.clovellybedandbreakfast.com
McMillans of Metung www.mcmillansofmetung.com.au
Metung House www.babs.com.au/metung/index.htm
The Moorings at Metung www.themoorings.com.au

I agree with other posters that Metung is much nicer to stay at than Lakes Entrance.

My family stayed at The Moorings a couple of months ago and loved it. We booked a room with absolute water frontage - was literally only half dozen steps onto the marina.

Thanks to all of you for the help. I've just sent off an e-mail to The Moorings asking for their rates and availability. It is always good to have the recommendation of someone who has stayed at a place recently.

Cheers,
BigBlue
