Lizard Island, Day Trip. Anyone familiar?

Hi, We have heard on this forum, I believe, that Daintree Air has a trip where he flys you to the island for the day. Has anyone taken this adventure. We are leaving on the 16, and are trying to plan a fun two day adventure to the north and were considering it. Please comment. Thanks,

hi, yes - i have been on the day trip to lizard island!! my husband and i were there in ocotber. two other couples were on our trip with us as well and it was INCREDIBLE! they were both australian couples so it was great to talk with them about life and culture and their wonderful country! the day trip was the best thing we did on our entire vacation! we stayed at the angsana in palm cove as well as at the park hyatt in sydney. we didn't have the funds to actually stay at lizard, but this is the best alternative for those who can't actually afford spending their vacation at the reosrt! :) you can contact greg (the pilot/tour guide/renaissance man) @ [email protected] and you can also check out the website at "www.daintreeair.com.au" -( it's a family owned co.) and the price includes the chartered flight, day trip including a tour around the island (very informative and just plain entertaining as greg has that wonderful aussie sense of humor), snorkelling equipment, and all of your lunch/snacks/water are provided too! i can't say enough about this experience! if you do contact greg, plese tell him that julie and darin say hello!!!! good luck and have a great time!

Jules, thanks for all the helpful information. I think it sounds like something we might do. I'll let you know when we return.
If you do a search for Daintree Air, you'll find lots of great comments. That convinced us to do it when we're going to be there in April. Greg is the friendliest guy and we're so looking forward to it.

teresa & debusa -

i'm so excited for the both of you! my day at lizard island is the thing i remember with great fondness (especially when work gets to be too much - i just close my eyes and recall that crystal blue water and the weather and the fish and the clam garden and greg's hilarious stories and the view from the plane...) and all my stress and worry disappears! teresa, when in april do you depart? what is your itinerary like? if you remember, please tell greg that julie and darin said hello! :) debusa, i hope you get to experience lizard! it's truly paradise!

Teresa, we are taking the trip on Saturday, Easter Weekend. Greg has been so great, though we have only communicated thru emails, he is very professional and quick to respond, and I have heard he is a perfect guide. Just praying for good weather, since we only have that ONE day. Dang ! Can't wait. Maybe we will hook up on the same flight. You have fun, we will, too.

jules, I'm imagining it right now as I finish work before we leave tomorrow for Australia! I'm so excited! We're going to Sydney for 5 days, Kangaroo Island for 2, Ayers Rock for 2, Kakadu for 4, and Port Douglas for 5.

debusa, we're flying on the 14th so I'll let Greg know that if we spot a shark, then he'll have to find one for you too. (He told us he owes us one!)

I spent two days on Lizard Island and had an AMAZING time. Whether you get to spend a day or a week, GO! It was the highlight of my trip (and I also saw Sydney, Tasmania, and Port Douglas). Enjoy!

hi guys. I have spoken with greg many times on the email over the last four months. We are going on daintree to lizard on thursday june 5th. I too hope the weather is great. I also hope that greg is our guide since he informed me that he isn't the only one who does the tours. We are starting out in sydney four days there. Then on to ayers rock and a tour of the kings canyon and two nights in alice springs. we are doing the hot air baloon ride and take a camel to dinner but am still not sure about the sounds of silence dinner. Any thoughts? Then on to brisbaine for a rotary international convention. There I hope to get to hold a koala(Where is this in brisbaine). Then from brisbaine on to port douglas for three nights at the Peninsula hotel(I hope this is a good hotel since it is very expensive-not as much as lizard but it is still expensive. Then the lizard island day trip on the fifth of june and then the kurunda skyrail on the sixth and then home to new york on the 7th of june. Keep in touch. I can be reached at [email protected]. Bruce

aha! bruce - good hearing from you too! i forgot your trip was in june...only a few short months away!!! i may have forgotten to mention (for debusa and teresa) that we were fortunate enough (well, depending on your outlook on life/death!) to see a fairly huge shark (6+ footer) at lizard (watson's bay) whilst snorkelling. ask greg (if he's your guide) to give you his scariest shark story (i think it involves some amazonian-like tall norwegian swimmer/model woman who wanted to see a shark while visiting lizard... needless to say greg definitely provided her with a shark sighting to remember!!!). anyway, be careful what you wish for as they say! our shark sighting was was quite an eventful day for us and gave us a wonderful story to tell back at home...what a sight! :) hopw you all have a great weekend!

Whoops, I posted in the wrong place so I'll try again----
How much (in US$) is the Daintree Air trip to Lizard Island? I have seen various prices quoted.

debusa Mar 28th, 2003 05:20 PM

About $405 (AUD) if you book outside Australia (less GS Tax, or whatever. Use the currency converter on line. It's at about 60 to their 100 dollars.

marshall531 Mar 28th, 2003 05:30 PM

unless i am getting ripped off it is 450 per person australian dollars. So 900 aus dollars for the two of us which is about 500 US dollars. I think it will be worth every penny since to see a broadway show at one hundred dollars a pop plus a nice dinner would cost you almost 400 dollars for a couple. How can you compare this to lizard island.

I will be in Palm Cove in about 2 weeks and still have not made up my mind about the Daintree Air trip versus a regular boat trip out to the reef. Anyone have anything to help me make up my mind? We are interested in diving and Greg said that the water is only 3 feet deep. We will be going out with our "group" to the reef at least one other day. HELP.

I have booked the trip with Greg! We are going on April 10, with a backup for the 12th. If anyone wants a report I'll be home May 1 and my email is [email protected].

By the way, the cost, when booking in US in about $560 for two, US dollars.
