Lilianfels Hotel Blue Mountains
We will be in the Blue Mountains for 5 or 6 days, would love some feedback on this hotel. Is is pretty centrally located, and worth the price. Thanks.

It's a beautiful place, and as well-located as the fifty or so other guest houses in the area, which are also lovely. As to whether it's worth the price, well, I don't know how much you're being asked to pay. But just for a comparison, check out the Grand View Hotel, which is not at Katoomba but at nearby Wentworth Falls, opposite the station. Its website -- with room prices -- is http://www.thegrandviewhotel.com/. From there you'd have to catch a train or bus to Katoomba, but there are some nice walks around Wentworth Falls, also, and you have long enough in the area to be able to afford the time to travel to various places.

Thank you for your reply. Quite pretty, but "all with shared facilities" for the rooms is not what I am looking for.

Lilianfels has a good reputation. It is about 15 minute walk to Katoomba town centre. It has the red explorer bus going by. Even if I won lotto I would not pay $300 a night for a room, so it is personal decision. Also have no idea what you have been quoted. You can rent a self contained house for that for an entire 5 days. The one comment I will make though is that it does not scream a 6 day stay. Maybe 2/3 nights. |
Thank you....but a great hotel is worth the money IMHO. Appreciate your comments.

I stayed at Lilianfels in January. It is everything I would want in a traditional country inn. The rooms were lovely- exactly as pictured in their literature. Beautiful wallcoverings, fabrics and half canopies above the beds. The bathroom was large, marble tiled and had a soaking tub with a separate shower stall. Two small room complaints-
1) I have noticed a trend in high end hotels to have beautiful but impractical clocks, and Lilianfels has fallen into this trap. I hate having to turn the light on to see what time it is in the middle of the night. 2) Call me a geek, but I am a sucker for turndown service. I was disappointed to find no 'treat' let at tundown... no chocolate, no flower, no quotation... nothing :o( Umbrellas are around for guest use... they were very much appreciated for walking from the dinner in the rain. Breakfast was included in our package and was bountiful and tasty. We had dinner at the on site restaurant Darley's. The food was good, but the overall experience was destroyed by the service. It started out very attentive but as the night wore on our server (in fact, a few of the staff) began doting on a large table next to us... neglecting us in the process. That is NOT o.k. I would stay again without hesitation, but I might not eat at Darley's. While staying, we did also check out Echos which is right next door. Beautiful and very friendly. If you prefer a more modern look, it is worth consideration as well. |
This :o was supposed to be this :(

Always great reviews for this place yet I cannot see why. But I have never been inside ! From outside doesn't call my name. If you enjoy it then that is the main thing. This is what a holiday is for. I have my heart set on staying at a guest house one day nearby to there. It looks so pretty and does call my name out VERY LOUDLY, however my husband cannot see my fascination for the place, maybe too girly and too many antiques. lol We all have our little pleasures we seek on holidays, I am glad mine don't include Lilianfels as we would be broke we take off so often! But it is a time we should indulge our desires. have fun! |
Lilianfels is in the book - "1000 Places to Go Before You Die"! So you could check it off on your list. I tend to be in the same camp as Tassietwister and don't spend $300 per night for a hotel. Instead I'll stop by and see it so I can say I was there :-)! But if you have gotten a good price - why not!
