Lay over in Alice Springs
We have a 5 hour lay over in Alice Springs. Could we visit anything in this time period. Arrive in Alice Springs Nov 15th 10:20am leaving Alice Springs 4:40pm. Would like to be able to see some of alice springs if this is possible. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Take a taxi to Desert Park - you could easily fill in your time there. Cafe for lunch/drinks etc.
Or get a taxi and ask the driver to take you on a tour around the town. It's not a big city and you should be able to see the town sights easily in 90 minutes or so. Or you could contact the tourist bureau in Alice Springs and see if they can offer a personalised tour with a chaffeured car. |
marg,
Thank you for you help. I will try to contact the tourist bureau to see about the tour. But the Desert Park sounds great too. |
Hi obrien641,
Marg has given you some ideas of what to do, I would add that the locals do not use the taxi service in Alice Springs very often. We prefer to use the private hire cars which cost the same and sometimes are cheaper but they are much nicer to travel in. There is a reason that the taxi's here have plastic covered seats. However you might want to give these people a try for your stop over they base their business around helping people like yourself with tailor made tours: http://www.tailormadetours.com.au/tours_tm.php Remember that it will be hot here in November so dress accordingly. Two other ideas - visit the School of the Air where the teacher teaches outback children via radio. Open to the public I believe. Also think you can visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Alice. You'll need a hat and sunscreen while you're outdoors, the sun here can be hotter than you might be used to.
