Last minute hotel bookings

Does anyone know if the price of hotel rooms on sites such as "wotif" decline as you get closer to the actual arrival date?

It depends on their bookings, raerose. Now, for example, there will be lots of "red hot specials" for Easter where the establishment's bookings are really low; but 2 weeks ago they may not have known what the situation would be closer to the event.

It can, of course, go the other way and someone offering a good rate could have have a heavier occupancy & increase their rates or block out those dates.

Hi again Raerose,
Here's an example of a "last minute fire sale"

Hope the link works: This is for Melbourne.

Bokhara is correct. It depends on the time of the year. After Easter in Australia and I assume NZ, you will note a drop in most accommdodation prodviders prices on sites such as (the best in my opinion) around and if you have the number/e-mail of the place you prefer (google it up). then contact the accommodation provider and let them know you have seen their property on Wotif or 'whoever' and they will be happy to negotiatiate with you over the phone/e-mail as you have established with them you have seen their low price.
Good luck....
