Kuranda Scenic Railway
 

Would you suggest taking this? How long does it take and what does it cost?

It is something worth doing...Take the train ride to Korunda apx. 45 min then take the Gondola down to the aborigine theme park... well woth the time...plenty of time to shop in korunda

Check before you book and try to go on a market day - there will be lots more to see in Kuranda.

We took an organised tour to Kuranda which we found very restrictive.<BR>The scenic railway was a bit hot and boring.To be honest, if we were to re visit Kuranda (which is quite possible as its a great place to see).<BR>We would do two things differently.<BR>1. We would book and go by ourselves avoiding the tours and going and seeing what we want to see when we want to, rather that trying to keep to the tour operators schedule.<BR>2. We actually enjoyed the train.....you see a different side of the mtn/scenery...and I was impressed by the tunnels and the fact they built the railway so long ago with such rudimentary equipment.<BR><BR>We took a pkg tour per se---they picked us up and we had a reserved train time. I would have preferred a bit more time in Kuranda ---we spent too much time in one of the Bird &quot;zoos&quot;...but got awesome pictures and had a great time--the one near the Honey House place. AWESOME scones and honey!!mmmmmmmm that was wonderful!<BR><BR>I can just imagine it now. We got back around the time we needed for our gondola on the skyrail...but it was sooo drought ridden last October that there was NO lush and pretty greenery. The view was nice --you could see big huge dust clouds off in the fields. <BR><BR>We got off at each stop and checked out the exhibits and walks. <BR><BR>IF you have any interest in Aboriginal Culture and History---we really enjoyed Tjupakai (can't remember the spelling).<BR><BR>IF we hadn't wanted to get into Tjupakai then we would have had more time in Kuranda. BUT I really appreciated the stories and history that having less time in Kuranda was fine by me. Besides how much stuff can you really BUY!!!
