Kiwi viewing at Willowbank Reserve - indoors vs. outdoors?

Looking at kiwis outdoors under the stars sounds very appealing to me, but that'll mean we won't be able to take the Best Attractions bus back to Christchurch afterwards. How does the indoor Nocturnal House experiece compare to the outdoor version at night?

Thanks,
Kat

I'm back from NZ and I'm answering my own question -

We went in December and it was bright daylight until 9:30pm, well past the night tour time. So the "outdoor" tour will give you basically 0 kiwi sighting, other than the little holes they dug with the long beaks. But we got lucky and spotted one "outdoors" inside its little hut.

All in all, the indoor nighthouse is already very enough, as the house is a decent size. For better viewing I guess you'll have to go to Stewart Island! (our next target)
