Kangaroo Island, Adelaide or Melbourne, flight time from Toronto or Vancouver

Comments on "Is Kangaroo Island worth a visit." Would you choose Adelaide or Melbourne and why (Sydney is one destination), and how long flight from Toronto to Sydney approximately or from vancouver to sydney.

Thanks.

Don't know the exact flying time from Vancouver, but from San Francisco it was about 13-1/2 hours non stop. But why not just call the airline and they'll tell you the duration of the flight. No doubt, from Toronto you'll be connecting in Vancouver. It's a long trip, no doubt about it.

We visited MEL, and enjoyed the city and the surrounding area tremendously. MEL is nothing like SYD, though both are lovely.

While in MEL we went out to some of the vineyards, visited Healesville animal sanctuary; another day we drove the Great Ocean Road as far as 12-Apostles and return in one-day; another day we visted the Victoria Market and all around the central business area; one evening we visited the casino. We stayed at the Novotel hotel in the St.Kilda area, across from the beach, with lots of interesting restaurants within a block of two in all directions from the hotel.

But you have to decide what you want to get out of your visit to Australia (visit & learn) which is as diverse as Canada and the States.

Air canada goes Toronto-Honolulu-Sydney...the flights connect about 1.00 am (local time in Honolulu)

Toronto-Honolulu 7 hrs
Honolulu-Sydney 9 hrs.

Recently even transit flyers have had to clear immigration in Hawaii...it can be a real pain sitting around honolulu in the middle of the night for a couple of hours.

I assume you are retired and have a buck....the flight is long...to come here for 15 days seems very short if you have time and $ to stsy longer.

Do what an increasing number of snow birders are doing...forget phoenix and come downunder for a couple of months during winter.A hell of a more rewarding experience.

Our experience with Air Canada was Toronto-Vancouver-Honolulu-Sydney so add about five more hours onto that and you have 21 hours total, keeping in mind that is just flying time. By the time we waited for connections it was 27 hours travel time to Sydney. Brutal no question but worth every minute.

Our journey corresponded with Starfish1 - we had to fly Toronto/Vancouver/Hawaii/Sydney - at least 21 hours (it seemed like an eternity!). Be aware that if you land in transit in Hawaii, you will have to go through USA customs and immigration formalities in Vancouver before boarding your flight. This meant collecting all your luggage, filling out all the necessary forms, and then re-checking your luggage in for the flight. All this for one hour sitting in the transit lounge in Hawaii.
