Jupiters Gold Coast Brisbane?

We are planning a trip for Australia in June. Anyone stayed at the Jupiter's? I appreciate any info!

There are plenty places much better and that goes for both of them.

Oops didn't mean to finish in mid stream.
The one on the Gold Coast is noisy unless you are right at the top of the building and still you can hear the noise. Its nothing more than the usual 5 star boring hotel.
The one in Brisbane is a beautiful old building that they allowed some crazed and very ill architects to get their warped ideas into and what should have been a gracious and elegant style of a place is now trying to find an identity between garish and stupid modern and plain bad taste. It's a good location though but so are a lot of other places.

There are much better options than Jupiters for staying on the Gold Coast, unless you need ready access to the Casino. Jupiters is big and noisy and a fair walk to the beach, across a busy highway or a monorail ride. There are loads of nice apartment blocks, or top hotels, much closer to the beach, shops, restaurants, etc.

Could you recommend any beachfront, quiet places? or is it all noisy because of the area? I will appreciate all suggestions!

Thanks,

Lynette

Thanks John! We are attending the Rotary International Conference... and the Jupiter's was one of the accomadations provided to I will research Byron Bay.

Lynette

Byron Bay is far too far away for the Conference. Do a search of Broadbeach, Gold Coast and preferably the Oasis Centre. Jupiters has an open area right to the roof and the noise travels up to the rooms. Otherwise it would have been convenient. However the Oasis Centre is only a monorail away or a quick walk.

I'm a regular Broadbeach goer. I reckon the best area is overlooking the park and beach along Old Burleigh Rd and adjacent to the pedestrian mall, where all the cafes, restaurants and shops are located. Unless you're in the middle of the mall (where you get restaurant noise) the apartment blocks facing the beach are fairly quiet. We always stay at South Pacific Plaza, which is perfectly located. Its not the newest or swankiest place, but is very comfortable with great views. It costs about $A110 a night.
You can search for accommodation at www.qttc.com.au
email me if you need more info about accommodation, or the area in general.

Sorry Lyn...Byron is about an hour and a half away from surfers.Didn't realise you were at a conference there.

I was being flippant...byron and surrounds contrasts with the high rise commercialism of the gold coast.

Thanks, especially for the detailed advice bout the broadbeach area. While my hubby is t the conference... I plan to explore and shop. Is July too cold to actually sit out at the beach?
Lynette

The Courtyard by Marriott is right in the middle of all the activity of Surfers Paradise. Its near the beach, clubs, bus stops, shopping, etc. It's a deluxe hotel. We got very good rates when we stayed there last April. You should get even better rates for a stay in July. The Jupiter is well removed from most everything.

Stay away from Surfer's Paradise unless you are of the 18 - 25 yr old set and/or Japanese. Broadbeach is the much preferred location and a lot quieter and certainly nearer for your convention. You will be able to go back and forth at will on the monorail.
I was at Broadbeach yesterday and it is a great place to be. There are so many lovely outdoor restaurants and coffee houses, Woolworths Supermarket is right there and of course the beach is across the road. It will be lovely sitting on the beach in June as long as there are no winds. Out of the wind it will be most pleasant. Then of course you have Pacific Fair Shopping Centre which is one of the largest in Australia and is also very interesting. Also there are about 12 movie theatres and you can either walk from Broadbeach to Pac. Fair or take the Monorail to the Casino and walk across the road to the shopping centre.
Grand Mercure is an older but convenient hotel but try looking up the Phoenician which is either an apartment hotel or just apartments at Broadbeach but which would be terrific.

The Phoenician resort Apartments are lovely and really in a great spot. Here is the web page
http://www.hotelclub.net/directhotel.asp?id=4486
I am sure that you would have a wonderful time there.

Lynette I tried to email you. I will also be attending the rotary conference with my wife and we are staying at jupiters which was reccommended to us. The bus picks us up there each morning and brings your husband and I to the convention. Maybe my you and my wife can shop together and relax. Email me at [email protected]. Hope to hear from you.
