Jervis Bay - Worth the Day Trip?
 

Planning to go out on a day trip to Jervis Bay and bum around and back to Sydney in mid-Sept but really wonder if worth the time considering will only have 5 days in Sydney and one is for blue mountains already. What does the gang all think on that trip?

Hi, Brazoo - Jervis Bay is a beautiful place - clean white beaches, bushland and you might even see a wallaby or two and possibly dolphins offshore - but it's 214 km (133 miles) from Sydney, so I imagine you'd have to deduct around 5 hours' travelling time from your day, leaving only a few hours to bum around. With only 5 days in Sydney you might be better advised to go with the one excursion to the Blue Mts - you'll find plenty to occupy you in Sydney itself, depending on your tastes. Jervis Bay is Magic!

White sands, beautiful beaches, kangaroos and colourful birds. One of my favourite places.

It is, however, as our esteemed friend Neil says, at some distance from Sydney, and off the public transport routes, so your options are some sort of tour, or hiring a car.

I love it - but I don't think I'd be too keen to give it one day of a 5 day holiday, especially if it necessitated my driving down there.

On a tour, I'd seriously think about it!

Just in case you want a third opinion -- the above two posters are exactly right. Jervis Bay is pleasant, as is most of the south coast of NSW, but most Sydneysiders would, I think, rate it as the kind of place to visit when you have plenty of time on your hands, and can combine the trip with other sights (like the Blowhole at Kiama, the lovely old town of Berrima, the under-visited Wombeyan Caves, or one of the National Parks on the south coast). If you could plan a couple of days and do all of the above, then I'd say "go for it", but since you are so tight for time, I think you'd use your five days better by concentrating on Sydney and the Mountains. Maybe consider staying overnight in the Mountains so that you get to do more than just stroll around the ridges of Jamison and Megalong Valleys, which is all that most tourists get to do.
