island wedding

We want to get married on an island in May next year..just the two of us! Does anyone have any recommendations/warnings about places in Australia (Hayman etc.)or South Pacific (Fiji??)

I don't know about island weddings in Aust - but I have been fortunate to be at 2 in Fiji. Both were really special and very romantic, and the Fijians make it a beautiful and glorious occasion. One was at Yasawa island lodge, the other at Navini. The Yasawa one was particularly beautiful with the bride carried aloft in a chair to to the beach, Fijian singing, frangipani everywhere and a sunset service. These weddings happen frequently in Fiji and they are very well organised for them. If you look on the tourism fiji site you'll probably find the details.

Hayman is absolutely wonderful and so is Lizard Island further north near Cairns. I am sure that there are many more but these two are exceptional and there are not millions of people around either. You can get to other Islands too in the Whitsundays and have an uninhahited one all to yourself if you like.

thanks! Re Hayman, did you stay there recently? Apparently they have done some refurbishments..I've read that some people weren't that impressed but that could have been before July 2001.

Yes I have been there recently and I thought it was wonderful ( was my 20th anniversary ) I have copied and pasted a site for you to check out
http://www.hayman.com.au/
I think that should answer any of your questions. Also I think that the Whitsundays are probably the world's finest destination ( as Islands go that is) and the area around is so beautiful. The AUD$ is so low that if you are from overseas you are in for an absolute ball - take plenty of extra luggage room.
Have fun -John

Karen: Consider Bederra Island on the GBR. My wife (Karen as well) and I spent 4 very romantic days and nights on this small peaceful island. Bederra is a 1st class resort with only 15 cottages-30 people max. It offers all inclusive package with 4 star food and any and all of the finest wines, champagnes, and other libations from around the world. During the day you can just relax on the island or take your own motorized dinghy to any one of a dozen private secluded beaches many which offer coral for snorkeling. (Day trips can also be arranged to the heart of the GBR.) Island staff will even pack you a picnic lunch to take along. We couldn't recommend a more romantic resort (although there must be some out there that we haven't visited).

Bederra Island can be accessed from Cairns via a short flight and private boat ride by the way of Dunk Island.

If you would care to see some of our photos please email me at the following address: lgaul@dart or [email protected]

Larry
