Is Spirit of Tasmania the only ferry to Tasmania from mainland?

Hi, we live in Melbourne but are a bit out of touch with all things Australian, having been living in the UK for a number of years.

Due to ill health in the family, we are going to have quite a few short trips to Tasmania (region near Devonport) coming up.

There used to be a reasonably quick boat years ago (Devil Cat?) but it seems that now there's only the Spirit of Tasmania which takes 9-11 hours.

Apart from flying, does anyone know of any other options?

Thanks
Kay

Swim? Kayak?

I haven't heard of any other options other than private boats/plane or perhaps a cargo boat.

The Devil Cat is no longer operating.

There are day sailings in summer which are cheaper.

You don't have to stay in a cabin - you can sleep in recliners - a bit like business class on a plane.

The trip is fairly painless. It leaves Melbourne at 7.30 and arrives at Devonport at 6.00 just in time forbreakfast at Anvers chocolates - a great cafe with great cakes and reasonable chocolate. Their hot chocolate is very good.

Thanks Peter. We visited Anvers years ago, sounds good for breakfast (or any time!).

I was sort of hoping there was a new fast ferry, that is cheap and takes 2 hours, departing 5 times a day. In my dreams perhaps

Keep dreaming. It is quite a long way even at 25 knots.
