Is Sept a good month to visit North Island NZ?

Hi,
Am planning my first trip to New Zealand, from 6-16 Sept, starting with North Island. All explore South Island in another trip.

Haven't fixed my itinerary yet; a visit to Hobbiton is definitely in. Can you advise me what the weather is like during this time?

Has anyone visited North Island in Sept last year and can you share some pictures?

Thanks.

Hi, flyingbert,

The weather can be great, and it can be yuck! Spring starts this month, and so do the vagaries of weather. Where are you planning to go other than Hobbiton? Are you driving yourself?

Weather can be a bit iffy at that time of year. As with many places in Spring, there can be beautiful sunny days and lots of cool wet ones. We have had an uncharacterically dry Summer this year, so who knows what Winter and Spring will bring.
Hobbiton is a great place. If you are driving, The Coromandel is a great area to visit, and Whangamata at its southern end often has its own micro-climate so when rain is falling everywhere else, everyone in Whangamata is heading for the beach.

Hi,
Thanks for your replies!

Will be renting a car to drive around North Island, likely to be there for about 7-8 days, taking it easy. Now my dates have changed, could be going mid Oct.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Anytime is a good time to visit NZ. Spring & Autumn are my favorites. Just be prepared to dress in layers!
