Is French Polynesia worth the cost for a honeymoon??
 

Hello!

My fiance and I are trying to decide if we should go to French Polynesia for our Honeymoon in late August for 2 weeks. We were thinking of going to Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora, but we are certainly up for suggestions. We scuba dive and were interested in the kayaking, hiking and other outdoor activities the islands seem to offer. We also want to relax, but we think we will get bored if we spend the entire time in a bungalow on the water kind of deal.

Everything I read continues to say how EXPENSIVE the islands are. I am okay with paying more if it is worth it.....is it?

Also, is there enough to do there (like eating, drinks etc.) or is it pretty sleepy?

Thanks in advance for helping us make our choice. We were also considering Koh Samui in Thailand because my finace loves it, but I didn't know if we should try French Polynesia instead.

After visiting FP twice, I promised myself to get scuba certified for my third trip. I never got certified but went back for the third time anyway.

Your interest definitely matches what FP offers. It is pretty much all water - sailing above or scuba below. I thought Rangiroa was more favored by scuba enthusiasts. Since Rangiroa was only for the advanced divers, I never looked into it.

I don't remember seeing much of kayaking. For one thing, you need to stay way clear of the barrier reef openings during tide changes. It is amazing to watch the fast water going into and out of the lagoon from the land, but I certainly don't want get sucked into that kind of turbulent stream.

Everything is very expensive. It is not just at resorts and restaurants.

In Bora Bora, it is pretty much geared to honeymooners and the cruise. Try to avoid main the port area in Bora Bora when the big boats come in. It is not a big town.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon on Tahiti, Bora Bora and Moorea and never regretted the money we spent there. I would suggest you stay more days on Moorea because it is a bit more developed whereas like the previous poster mentioned Bora Bora is mainly for honeymooners so quiet and serene.

We would definitely go back a second time, if only we could justify it financially!
