International Drivers License

Is it necessary to have an International Drivers License to rent a car or campervan in New Zealand? We are from the United States.

We've never needed more than our US DL to rent a car in OZ and NZ, so I assume it's the same for a camper van.

You might want to double check with the rental agency, just in case they require more for a camper van, but I really doubt it.

My understanding is that IDLs are only useful/necessary if you're visiting a non-English-speaking country, but I agree that it would do no harm to ask the question. We got IDLs before visiting the US and they turned out to be a waste of money.

"licence" - please. There is a difference between noun and verb.

Oh no, here we go...

I drove a car in NZ with my US license.

Thanks for the information. I think I'll pass on the IDL.
