Independent Vacationing in Moorea

We found the cheapest flight to NZ was via Tahiti, so we're now planning a 5 night stay to enjoy ourselves while there.

I would like to go to Moorea and find a reasonable hotel (if such a thing exists.) We'll be there in late feb.

Does anyone have any suggestions on budget accomodation in Moorea, and also is it really necessary to have a/c at that time of year?

Thanks for your help

There are some budget places in Moorea. We rented a 4-person bunk room at Moorea Camping, just south of Haaru ('Le Petit Village'). It cost us $50 per night. Nothing fancy, but a nice beach and a communal dining room where we met backpackers from all over the world. If you want more of a real Tahitian-style hotel, I'd suggest Hotel Moorea Village, which has those thatched-roof bungalows. Another choice near Haaru is the Hibiscus Hotel, again on a nice beach with thatched roof accommodations. Here is a discussion board, where this topic recently came up:

There is usually a good breeze, so air conditioning is not a must. Many places have ceiling fans, which help immensely. Only high-end resorts seem to have a/c.

Thanks for your reply and advice. We're all set with MVH, and can't wait to be relaxing on the beach.
