Impulse/Virgin Blue

What is the word on these airlines? They certainly beat Qantas on standard fares; how's the service? And what about Ansett - are they finished?

Ansett is still flying, but there is always talk that 4 airlines are 1 or 2 too many for Australia with it's small population. Only time will tell.
The main problem with Virgin Blue and Impulse at the moment is they don't cover a very wide area, for example they don't fly to Cairns or Perth. I think they are planning on expanding their flights and this will undoubtedly help consumers (more competition, lower prices).
Kay

Virgin Blue fly into Townsville every day and alot of people are either hiring a car or busing further north. Friends did this a few weeks back and paid A$198 return Brisbane/Townsville and said the service was great on the plane. alittle more basic but when you save over 100 bucks on the other airlines..who cares!!

I flew Virgin Blue from Brisbane to Sydney last year and not only did I get an excellent price, the flight was great. sure, it's definately a no-frills airline (ie. no on board meals unless you pay extra etc.) but for a short flight like brisbane to sydney (2hrs) you don't need it.

Impulse has gone belly up. I think Qantas are now taking over their operations. There goes some cheap fares !!
