To some they're pests; to me, they're endlessly entertaining.

Here's a compilation of kangaroo photos I've taken during several recent early morning visits to Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park here in Perth.

Some of those joeys are like little kids who won't get out of the stroller - far too big, but "anything for peace". I'm sure one of those does is rolling her eyes!

And love the teenagers sparring.

Glad you enjoyed it. I've been getting a lot of practice with my new zoom lens. Unfortunately, I've taken more bad photos than good, but hey, I'm a work in progress. I've rather enjoyed wandering around the park at 6 am, just me and a gazillion curious grey kangaroos - I must have seen close to 100 of them this morning.

Bokhara - those bulging pouches and protruding legs always make me laugh...that can't possibly be comfortable for poor mom!

I loved the pictures and the music on your slide show, Melnq8. My favorite was the kangaroo laid out flat on his back.

Curses. i have had terrible problems trying to load the photos but what I did see were awesome. I too loved the sparring kangaroos, and the little joeys - including the not-so-little joey with the long legs sticking out! Thanks, Mel, for sharing these.

Thanks guys. I went out again yesterday morning and saw a another boatload of 'em. One joey had his legs firmly planted on the ground and his head completely buried in his mama's pouch. I've not seen that trick before, it was pretty funny.

Melnq8, in the last instance it is likely( if it is a large joey) that she has another joey in the pouch and the youngster concerned will not be allowed to put more than its head in. She will be producing different milk for each of the joeys fitting to their stage of development. The newest one will still be attached to the teat and the older one will continue to use 'his' teat which will have grown through months of use. Macropods and most marsupials have a more complex, staged change in the composition of their milk than us 'placentals'.
