Ideas for holidays in Australia in January/February
 

Hi everyone,
I live in Perth, Western Australia and I'm 25. I have January and February off work and I am keen to travel somewhere within Australia, probably on my own. My budget is roughly $10,000 -15,000.
I love the beach and would be keen to learn how to surf (if anyone knows of a great surfing school somewhere?); I also love fishing (again, not very good at it so I would be keen to go on a fishing trip with a guide or something) and camping. I also love good food and cooking. So I am looking for some sort of organised tour that could involve surfing and/or fishing and/or camping in a beautiful part of Australia and with people around my age group. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You don't say if you are planning to hire a car - that might make a difference to where you can easily get to.

My suggestion would be Port Stephens (declaration: I live here!)
You'll be able to find plenty of people in your age group in the backpacker accommodation; there's a learn to surf school and plenty of options for guided fishing either in the harbour our out in the ocean.

Take a look at www.portstephens.org.au for all the local information. My suggestion for your accommodation would be Samurai Beach Bungalows - they also provide transport options.

If you'd rather stay right in the main Nelson Bay centre, The Nelson Resort is within walking distance of everything, recently refurbished throughout and has reasonable prices.

From Perth you could fly to Newcastle Airport (via Melbourne) on Jetstar or Virgin for much cheaper cost than flying via Sydney.
Other options are fly into Sydney, then take a coach train from Central railway. Coach travels all the way here, train involves a further bus trip from Newcastle station. Di

What about Tasmania? Beautiful place, good fishing - you could try your hand at fly fishing for Trout and/or snag a ride with one of the coastal fishermen.

Great contrasts from the gentle greens of the East Coast to the rugged drama of the West. Easy to drive around, historically interesting, great food, wines & beer! What more could an Aussie lad want?!

Hello James, I was going to travel in australia too for Continental Tyres On January for the AFC Asian CUP 2015 they are one of the sponsors #ContinentalTyresAFC That is gonna be held there. You might aswell watch some good football on sydney when you di plan to travel.

Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia has heaps of areas for surfing . Jan/Feb you will see heaps of people your age in Middleton , Port Elliot, Goolwa and Victor Harbour. Surf schools in Middleton and Goolwa. They are very popular. Fishing as well along that coast or further down towards the Coorong.
