I cannot decide! Adelaide or Melbourne?
 

I cant choose between Adelaide or Melbourne.

We're having a 7-day holiday on January and these are the two states we are interested in visiting. But we wanted to concentrate on one state. Which one do you is the best to visit?

Interests: We are keen in seeing the unique wildlife of OZ.

My recommendation would be to go to Adelaide and take a 2-3 day side trip (either by air or ferry) to Kangaroo Island. You can see lots of wildlife there (in the wild and not in a zoo).

Three years ago, I flew into Melbourne, took the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide (3 days), and visited Kangaroo Island for one night. I saw a lot of wildlife and roadkill on Kangaroo Island. I went with the company called Wayward Bus and at night they gave you a choice of staying in a hotel or hostel. Twenty-two people in a mini bus.

These two cities are just that. Cities, not states. They both have their pros & cons, however, what are you looking for?

Neither has the best beaches in Oz. They both are nice cities but lack the atmosphere of Sydney. Why either?

Sorry, I see you want wildlife. NSW has heaps of koalas & kangaroos. I look out on 4 kangaroos most mornings & I know where the koalas are. Don't limit yourself!

Hi there, I know Lyndie is pushing you to visit Sydney and if you wanted to go and visit a great big beautiful city then go to Sydney - because that is exactly what it is - a BIG city. Melbourne, the capital of the state of Victoria has a wonderful park called Healsville Sanctuary with lots of native fauna and flora in lovely native parkland, you can go to Phillip Island and see the gorgeous fairy penguins, and you can even see a bit of Africa if you go out to Werribee. The Melbourne Zoo is one of the best around. You will not see kangaroos roaming wild in inner suburbia (though you can get them at less than 30kms out), nor are you likely to see a koala in a tree - so you may be stuck to zoos unless you do as is suggested and get out into the countryside.

Anyway, since Ive been to Sydney, I dont think we will go there twice.
We want to discover new things and be thrilled with adventure in a different place. :)

Well then, perhaps I should add that I did a two-day trip to Kangaroo Island with the Wayward Bus once arriving in Adelaide. They took us to petting zoos, walks along the beach with the seals and unfortunately we saw lots of road kill. A lot to see on Kangaroo Island if you are into animals.

The bus picked me up in Melbourne around 1:00 p.m. and the tourist were from England, Germany, United States and New Zealand. 22 is a nice group size. They know where to go to see the wildlife.

You will also find wildlife in the bars of the Kings Cross area of Sydney.
